Literature Text

He did not cry on his parents’ funeral. He had done enough crying that week. It was raining out side He had to wear a pair of shades to protect his eyes. He had been accompanied by a young nurse named Jenny whom he had befriended at the hospital. Half of the town must have been at the wedding, but Mikey felt as though no one else was there.
He stayed at the cemetery after the funeral. The graves of his mom and dad lay side by side and they shared one large tombstone. He placed a bouquet of flowers on the graves. He thought how ironic it was that it was raining. It always seemed to rain at a funeral in the movies. He spoke to his parents’ graves for a little bit, telling them how he felt. Then he said goodbye and walked back to the car where Jenny was waiting for him.
*************
A month passed, his cast was taken off. Two months passed, then more months. It was almost a year when he was finally going to be released from the hospital. He was happy to be leaving but he was also sad. Jenny had become like an older sister to him and they had a lot of fun together. He was going to miss her after he left.
“Don’t worry,” she had said, “we’ll still be friends and I’ll come visit you wherever you may be.” Her smile was so warm and sweet.
“Promise?” Mikey said
“I promise.” She said
Although he was glad to be leaving the hospital, Mikey was also sad because since he had no living relatives left, he would most likely have to be put in an orphanage and also he would have to go to school again. He had not gone to school for a year so he and his old friends would not be in the same grade.
Jenny drove him to his old home to collect his things since the bank was planning to sell his home soon. As they reached his home, Jenny was astounded by the fact the house was in perfect condition and the lawn seemed as though it had been recently mowed.
“Here we are Mikey. 10568 Greenbrook Way.” She said. Mikey didn’t say anything, just nodded his head. He hadn’t been to his house since the accident that claimed his parents. They walked up the porch steps. Mikey tripped and fell back but luckily, Jenny caught him. They opened the door and then…
“Surprise!” A group yelled out from the den. Mikey covered his ears by the sudden noise. Jenny was shocked to see someone here. They walked into the den and found Callie, Mark and their two daughters sitting on a sofa.
“Oh my!” Jenny exclaimed, “Mikey, guess who’s here.”
“Who?”
“It’s Mr. and Mrs. Patterson, Riley and Lauren.”
“Hey,” Riley said. She was a year younger than him but was a bit taller. Her wavy hair was tied back in a ponytail and her deep chocolate eyes were hidden behind a pair of designer shades. By the sound of her voice Mikey could tell she was blushing. He knew he was blushing back.
He smiled, “Hi Ry. Hi Lauren.”
Lauren was five years younger than Riley but she shared the same crimson hair that Riley had and made many envious. “Mikey, guess why we’re here!” she said in her bubbly voice.
“I dunno, why are you here?”
Callie walked up to him and gave him a hug. He felt awkward by her act. “Mikey, I know this might be a shock to you. We came here to tell you that we were able to claim guardianship of you. You are going to come live with us.”  She had the same loving smile as Jenny.
Mikey was surprised, “Does that mean I won’t have to live in an orphanage?”
“Yes, it does,” she replied. He was glad. He never thought anyone would want to take in an orphan of his age that’s blind.
They helped him collect all the things he needed from his room and sold most of the furniture to support him in the future. After all the furniture was sold and they prepared all of Mikey’s belongings, Jenny had to leave. She gave him a peck on the cheek and told him she’ll visit him soon. Then she drove back to the hospital.
Callie, Mark, Riley, Lauren, and Mikey made it to the Pattersons’ home at around nine.  They owned a large four bedroom home in a small neighbourhood near Rockport’s only high school.
Lauren was already asleep, so while Callie and Mark tucked her in bed, Riley guided Mikey to his new bedroom. It used to be their guest bedroom but they redecorated so it would better fit the needs of a twelve year old boy. It almost looked like Mikey’s room in his old house.
“I hope you like it. Oh and try not to trip,” Riley said. She left and went to her own room across the hall.
Mikey managed to change into his pajamas and find his bed. It was soft and comfy unlike the hospital beds.
Mom; dad; thank you for sending me somewhere where I won’t be scared anymore, he thought, I will always love you guys and it won’t ever change. He closed his eyes and fell asleep with a grin on his face.  For the first time in a long time, he slept without crying. It was very peaceful.
This is the final prologue chapter =D
